On 1st July 2023 EHA converted from a limited company to a Charitable Community Benefit Society (CBS).
What does this mean?
Instead of being a company registered at Companies House, Empower, like a large number of housing associations, is now a community benefit society under the Co-operative and Community Benefit Societies Act 2014 and is registered with the Financial Conduct Authority (FCA). The FCA as well as being the UK’s financial regulator, is the registrar for societies of this kind. Empower continues to be a not for profit housing provider, registered with the Regulator of Social Housing (RSH).
As a charity, Empower is legally required to use any profits we make to further our charitable activities, in providing housing to people in need.
The conversion will not affect our tenants, tenancy agreements, rents or charges, or the services that we provide.
